Opening Reception for Robert Pulley and Heather Vickers' Exhibitions
The Art Museum of Greater Lafayette will hold two new exhibitions beginning in May: Courting the Mystery by Robert Pulley in the East Gallery and Elegant Equine by Heather Vickers in the McDonald Gallery.
Across five decades, Pulley has masterfully sculpted with clay and explored the realms of bronze casting, earning accolades throughout the Midwest. With immense pride, the Art Museum presents this exclusive showcase, offering a rare opportunity to delve into Pulley's artistic legacy. Spanning a spectrum of scales, Pulley's sculptures range from intimately small to towering vertical assemblages, some reaching an astonishing height of 12 feet. This exhibition is in conjunction with the Colossal Creations Art Crawl - a public installation of Pulley's sculptures throughout West Lafayette and Lafayette.
The work of Heather Vickers focuses on depicting horses in unusual poses, showcasing them in dynamic actions such as jumping, running, twisting, and turning. The compositions often feature overlapping horses, with some depicted individually or running away from each other. The inspiration for this body of artwork comes from the artist's deep love for horses since a young age. Rather than riding them, the artist's passion lies in drawing them, focusing on capturing their unique shapes and hooves. By recreating the muscle tone, the artist seeks to convey the horse's natural power and grace.
Join us for the opening reception for these two fascinating and visually stunning exhibitions on May 8th at the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette, beginning at 6:00 PM. Refreshments will be provided and admission is free!

Pamela Hignite's "I am. We are." Exhibition Opening Reception
Join us for Pamela Hignite's exhibition opening reception! Admission is free and light refreshments will be provided.
Delve into the contemplative creations of Pamela Hignite, where each work invites introspection and reflection. Each piece is a testament to the transformative power of personal experiences, notably shaped by the artist's encounters with adversity in young adulthood, including the profound loss of stillborn twins.
Integrated into the essence of the artwork is an unconscious dialogue with the themes of birth and death, silently echoing the artist's journey of healing and introspection. The subtle nuances that emerged, unbeknownst to the creator during the artistic process, now reveal themselves in a dance of profound symbolism, infusing each creation with a universal resonance. Nature and the human figure serve as muses, guiding the artist's hands to craft sculptures that echo the raw, emotive energy found in the art of primitive cultures. These ancient influences breathe life into the pieces, imbuing them with spiritual significance and a timeless connection to the elemental forces that shape our existence.
Central to these works is the belief in the interconnectedness of all life. Drawing from a shared biological essence, the artist explores the cycles of existence—creation, life, death, decay, and the return to the earth. Her pieces spark thoughtful consideration, prompting viewers to engage with the profound themes she explores. Whether contemplating the intricacies of life, the nuances of emotion, or the mysteries of existence, Hignite's art catalyzes deep contemplation, challenging observers to explore the layers of meaning embedded within each composition.

Join us for an opening reception that will include drinks, light hors d'oeuvres, and artist comments at the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette on June 23rd at 6:00 PM!
It’s Not All Black and White:
“Our choices are not simply black or white or right or wrong. To make an educated decision one needs to explore the gray area between black and white or at least try to understand both sides. Through paintings of black and white and mixed media, I explore the gray areas of current controversies on gun control, climate change, Roe V. Wade, racism, freedom of speech, and politics. I hope to find the truth somewhere in the middle, between black and white.” - Cindy Wingo
