Several years ago, during a stressful season of life, forested hiking trails became one of my greatest sources of solace and these spaces continue to provide me with a sense of peace and connection. Inspirational images for Felted Forests were captured while exploring miles of paths winding through canyons, over bluffs, and past waterfalls in Indiana, Illinois, and Ohio. I originally thought this show would represent those journeys; renditions of nature, crafted using natural materials that allow the viewer to experience a moment of that magical connection with trees, rocks, water, and earth. However, this show evolved far beyond those original visions and became more personal and profound than expected. During the hundreds of hours I dedicated to creating these pieces, I found that while my fingers were working to shape and mold fibers, my mind was working just as actively and embarking on a beautiful journey of its own. As I've brought these works to life, I've let myself be guided by those aspects of my art that also bring me to life. This has allowed me to try my hand at new techniques as seen in Iron and Sandstone and Juxtaposition and I have no doubt the astronomical growth in confidence and clarity I experienced between the trepidatious beginnings of Free Fall and the voice I discovered while creating Spilling In has changed my art forever. I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to share these places and pieces of myself and thank you sincerely for sharing this space with me.
